kicking off his career in the music business over a decade ago working at a vinyl distributor, stuttgart's normen flaskamp began producing back in 1999 and was releasing records under various guises on different labels soon after - but it was in 2006 that his solee alias was born, propelling him to new heights in the house and techno realm.
in 2006 he decided to take the reins into his own hands and set up a label, parquet recordings - a venture with straight distribution to disseminate his distinctive take on melodic, potent techno and lush, grooving tech house. the name solee was chosen as his new nom-de-plume and to serve as a creative rebirth, and this project has been his focal point since then. he kicked off the imprint with his own release "impressed", one of the biggest sellers in the catalogue to date that has impressive vinyl and digital sales, and was licensed to many compilations across the world. with support from many of the worlds biggest dj's and an enduring quality that sees it still played out today, it served as the perfect way for the label to begin. since then, the label has amassed over 50 releases across its main and ltd labels, as well as several compilations and albums.
aside from his own revered imprint, solee's blends of house groove, techno rhythm and progressive melody have graced some of the best-known labels in the world, with his remix of timo garcia's "lady luck" on yoshitoshi records hitting beatport's top 10 and his "ice / dubtale ep" for england's renaissance becoming one of their biggest selling single release on that same web store. his tracks have appeared on some of the foremost compilations in dance music, released by world-famous names like global underground, balance series, defected and ministry of sound, with more remixes for gui boratto, nick warren, tom novy and danny tenaglia (another beatport top 10) spreading his excellent reputation far and wide. one trade magazine said, he aims to put the "music" in "dance music".
his dj career began in the early 90ies but was put on hold when he started to get into the complex world of production. upon his return in 2008 - following several major booking requests - it was soon clear that he was a hugely able, intuitive and skilled selector. having djed across europe, he's been able to communicate his labels accessible sound and ethos to crowds in many different countries, building on his excellent reputation as a world-class producer. he's also proved himself on disc, mixing his own neotrance essentials, impressed, daybreak and re:cognition compilations to great acclaim.
his music crosses divides and spans genres, making his appeal widespread and meaning that - as evidenced by the power of youtube - youre as likely to hear james zabiela drop one of his tracks at a sweaty exclusive yacht party at miamis wmc as you are at a nick warren gig in a cool underground new york club, or during sasha & john digweeds set at the huge ultra music festival, or in moonbooticas set at berlins legendary watergate, or during tom novys set at germanys biggest outdoor festival nature one...
